Called CQ on 15m and got an answer from JE1???? . Real low signal with QSB and never fully got the call sign but heck I was heard in Japan . Very cool!

I was surprised by the 40m contact in Europe an hour before sunset. Heard Australia on 10m SSB ... tried to work them but there was so many Americans calling.

After dinner I loaded up the newly repaired 80m dipole ... seemed to load good at the low end of the band. One thing that did surprise me was just how many US and Canadian SSB Rag Chews were going on. For almost 400kHz it was one SSB QSO after another.

I was playing with the CW decoder software and watching the "DX Cluster" page while working the above.

Today I fixed up my 80m Dipole. It had broke in where is had soldered the wire together on both legs. I repaired the wires and rehung the antenna. Its on the side of a steep hill so its somewhere between a Vertical or an Inverted V. Anyhow when I connected the repaired antenna to the old FT7B I heard lots of US QSOs. I compared the Dipole to the 40/20/15/10 14avq Vertical and there was a big difference in signal.

Walked up to the top of the Hill and inspected the 14AVQ and IFL. The Antenna has a pretty good lean towards the SE. Years of being battered by high winds. Its not going to affect the way it works but I will do a 180 with it so it bends itself back to straight.

I also want to run more IFL to the top of the Hill for VHF stuff.... another day perhaps.

CW and the PC

Did one of the Hammy Do List things last night after work.

First I got the Old Speakers out an connected it to the Old PC. Next I soldered up a cable to get the Audio into the PC. Finally I downloaded a free and simple Morris Code Decoder program. It wasn't long and I was decoding away. Not great but not bad either but heck what can you expect for FREE!

40/10

Been having fun! After workign to midnight last night I fired the rig up and worked some 40m cw. Lots of QRN but things we open to Europe. Mostly weeksignals but Q5. It was fun bein ga VE3 on air between 05:30 and 08:30 GMT. There were a few times that I had guys calling me at the end of a QSO. Got up at 10:30 and had the rig fired up on 10m a short time later. Made a couple fo SSB contacts then slid down teh dial and worked a bunch of Europe. I was suprised at how long the band stayed open. Cranked it off an hour or so before I had to go to work.

DF9GU was an interesting contact , worked him 10m cw durign the last peak in solar activity in 2000. Its a small world , go figure.

Why not......

Resurrected the old Ham Radio Hobby and figured I would Blog my activities just like my Running Blog.

Spent a few hours cleaning and reorganizing the shack. Been listening for a couple of days and finally fired up the old FT101E today ... first time since 2006!

Worked SSB .... N7JHC, Cedar UT, KK5PJ Austin Texas and then G0DWV Norwich UK and then HI3 / Portable KL7JR in the Dominican Republic. Then I did a CW QSO with W7LND ...not very well mind you but I did get by. Did another CW conyact with a guy in Texas , KU5Q ...very short. Worked W0AEW in Co ... aprt of th e conversatio went like this ...

solid cpy hr rig is a ten tec a rgonnut 5running 20 wats to a vertical wx isusunny vy windy es 65 f age 61 rtiered ...so hw nw ? fb ron es nw sig fading tnx qso ron es vy 73 cul ve3ldp woaw

Before I turned off the rig I taklked to a guy in Texas k5GVP SSB and his gsignal was 40 db over S9.

Heard guys talking about a "QRZ" site.... it has quickly become apparent just how muach of an imapct the Internet has had on Ham radio. I have ben using a site to look upp call sings ... http://hamcall.net I am sure tehta there are many more!!!

Its been a real long time since I used Morris Code but I still sort of remember.. Will have to practice to gain more proficiency.
